  • Brown v. Board of Education

    They agreed segregation in public schools is unconstituional. This overturns the Plessy v. Ferguson ruling of seperate but equal.
  • Greensboro sit in

    Four black student from A&T sat down at a segregated Woolworth's lunch counter. They sat there and couldnt fight back but the took all the abuse the white gave them. This sparked sit-ins all around the country.
  • Emmett Till

    A african american kid went to visit his father in mississippi. One day he went into a store to get some candy and while in the store and whistled at a white women, Later that night some white men kidnapped him and brutally beat him past recognition and killed him. Then the men that did it got let off and then boast about it in a magazine
  • Rosia Parks

    A NAACP memeber (Rosia Parks) was sitting in the front of the colored section and the white section got full so the had to sit in the front seats of the colored section. They were not allowed to sit across from blacks so they told Rosia to give her seat up. She refused and the police had to remove her from the bus and putting her in jail. This lead to the Montgomery black community launches a bus boycott.
  • Little rock nine

    This was a attempt to integrate a all white high school in little rock arkansas.They were blocked from entering the school on the orders of the governor. President Eisenhower sends federal troops and the National Guard to escort the kids into college.
  • SNCC

    Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was founded by the student at Shaw university.It allowed young black people to get involved in the movement.
  • March on washington

    around 200,000 people joined the march. They got together at the Lincoln Memorial to participants listen as Martin Luther King delivers his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
  • Malcolm x

    He was a black nationalist and founder of the Organization of Afri america unity. He beleived in fighting back and protecting yourself. It is believed that the people that killed him were members of the Black Muslim faith.

    Congress passes the voting rights act of 1965, making it easier for black southerners to register and vote. All the test were made illegal.
