  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    Plessy v. Ferguson
    When a black man denies to give up his seat to a white man he is arrested. He later takes it to the supreme court to fight it. However, this causes the supreme court to decide that it is okay to segregate under "separate but equal"
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Several African students felt that separate but equal did not count for schools. when they complained to the supreme court they agreed. This led to the desegregation of blacks and whites in schools.
  • Murder of Emmett Till

    Murder of Emmett Till
    When a young emit till went to the store with his family he was accused of whistling at a white woman. The husband of the woman got mad and murdered the young man. This was one of the stories that made very huge news in the country and it showed the evil commited by white people.

    When a tired rosa parks refused to give up her seat on the bus she was arrested. this later led to the bus boycott. It became famous because it caused the bus companies to loose a lot of money and therefore changed occured.

    The Founding of Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) was a way to find a peaceful solution for civil rights. it Helped lead many peaceful protest at the time. It was important because it helped bring attention to the civil rights movement peacefully.
  • Little Rock Nine & Central High School 1957

    After the supreme court allowed mixed schools 9 young black kids tried going to school. however they were met with a lot of resistance. this was showing just how segregated people were being towards the black people despite it being legal to go to the same school.

    A group of civil rights and black activist came inside and sat at the white side of the booth. This caused mayhem and led to them being assaulted. this showed just how violent white people were and made the black people feel sympathy from the north.

    A group of black people and white people decided to go an a bus ride together to show that it was possible to be equals. however this made a lot of white southerners angry and it led to the bus riders being assaulted and more. this led to protest in other forms of transportation such as trains.

    the march on Washington was a march to talk about and hopefully resolve multiple civil rights issues. one of the most famous characteristics about this march was the i have a dream speech. This speech was aired on the radio and more so it reached out to a lot of Americans and therefore helping bring civil rights.

  • Civil Rights Act

    The civil rights act was passed by president LBJ. It was a very significant step towards equality because it prohibited discrimination in public places. There had not been a more significant act since the civil war in making blacks and whites equal.
  • Assassination of Malcolm X feb 1965

    After Malcolm X left the nation of Islam there was a lot more hate towards him. A week after his house was bombed he was shot by a member of islam.

    The voting rights act was passed by president LBJ. it banned the use of things such as paying a fee or literacy tests to vote that were common in the south. This was important for allowing minoritie to actually vote and have their voice heard.
