Case argued for desegregation of schools so that children could go to whatever school their families chose. Brown won the Supreme Court decided the spreate was inherently unequal. First big step in the push for equality -
Freedom Riders
Most of the protesters were black and white students the want the desgregation of interstate busses.They were violenty beaten when they reached Birmingham Alabama. The sheriff of the town worked with the KKK to make sure that the bus riders would be beaten. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
The law outlawed segregation in many public businesses like theaters restraunts and hotels.It also prohibted discrimation because of race. -
Voting Rights Act of 1965
The act sent Fedral workers to help register black voters.It also made litercy test making it possible for everyone to vote without the possiblity of discrimation.In 1965 250,000 Afircan Americans Registed to vote.
