    The SCLC was founded after the Montgomery Bus Boycott and its goal was to advance the fight for civil rights. Lead by Martin Luther King the SCLC used non-violent protest to fight segregation in the south.

    The riots in Watts, a predominantly black neighborhood in Los Angeles, began when police arrested a black man for suspected drunk driving. Riots broke out when spectators believed the incident was racial motivated by the white police who made the arrest. 4000 arrests were made by the riots end and there was $40 million worth of property damage.
