    Plessy v. Ferguson
    The state of Louisiana required that train cars be segragated. Plessy was 1/8 african and attempted to sit in the white car but in the states eyes he had to sit in the black car. His case was taken to the supreme court in which they came with the decision that being seperate was ok because they were equal.
  • Medgar Evers

    Medgar Evers
    He fighted to overturn segragation at the University of Mississippi. He also fighted for voting rights. Both of which he was able to achieve.
  • Hernandez Vs Texas

    video Hernandez Vs Texas was the first Mexican-American case of civil rights to ever be bring up. Hernandez lawyers argued that mexican decendants were systematically excluded from the jury. The Supreme Court then decided to review the case and the decisions made.
  • Brown v education

    Brown v education
    Made segregation illegal in public schools. It started out as a black girl wanting to attend a white school because the nearest black school was too far from her home. Thus creating the case that went up to the supreme court.
  • Mississippi Law for Segregation

    Mississippi enforced the Jim Crow laws. Jim Crow laws enforced segregation and also prevented blacks from being able to vote. Segregation was seen as a way of life in the eyes of whites from Mississippi.
  • Emimit Till

    Emimit Till
    Emmit Till flirted with a white woman and the white men that whitnessed this got angry. They later found him and took him to the river where they tortured him and finnally killed before throwing him in the river. Emmit's Uncle stood up for him in court by telling the truth in which was not in the white mens favor and could have gotten him killed too.

    Black people had to sit in the back of the bus and Rosa Parks refused causing her to get arrested. In which led to blacks boycott ridding the bus. The buses soon became unsegregated because majority of the their customers were black.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    Nine black kids attended the all white school for the first time but cause massive protests that became violent. Then the national guard had to be called in and escort them to and all around school to protect them. Of all of them one graduated and only one was expelled.
  • Albany, Georgia

    Albany, Georgia
    A group of locals got together to form a desegregation coalition. MLK later got involved to help out and expand the movement. The movement was on successful however they were able to learn from their mistakes.
  • Birmingham, Alabama

    Birmingham, Alabama
    Birmingham was considered one of the most segregated cities in the countries. A peaceful protest led by MLK led to the boycott of bussiness that resisted hiring black people and were segregated. A good fight was put on untill the city slowly became desegregated.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    Mlk gave his famous I have a Dream speech. The march was organized to try and achieve civil rights at the federal level. In which they were successful and the civil rights act bill was passed in April.
  • Selma to Montgomery March

    Selma to Montgomery March
    Mlk organized a march in protest of not being able to vote. Alabama had systems to try and keep blacks from being able to register. The march was a success and it motivated protests in other cities.
  • Mlk Assination

    video MLK was shot in Memphis Tennesee while staying at a motel. He was in Memphis to help support a protest for black sanitation workers unfair wages. After his death, his wife led a silent march for his honor and for the sanitation workers.
  • Civil Rights Act Signed

    video LBJ signed the act in which it prohibited public and workplace discrimination. He used 72 different pens to sign the document. All the pens were given to fellow supporters and civil rights activist like MLK.
  • Black Lives Matter

    v In current events, racial tension are still high. A series of black people have been shot to death by police officers and white people. The people who are in a ruse about the situation claim that there was no good reason to shoot them. Others claim that there were good reasons to shoot them. This is just what started the protests. They now are trying to eliminate racism in protest and other unconventional ways.
