    Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas
    This declared segregation in public schools unconstitutional. This allowed blacks and other colored people to got to school even if they needed protection. This allowed them to have the same right to got to school as whites.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    On this date Rosa Parks an african american refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger which was required at the time. She then got arrested and put into jail. This is what started the civil rights movement.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    The little rock nine was nine kids from Little Rock, Arkansa that wanted to go to school but their were gaurds in front of school that would not let them in. As you can see on the picture white people were not happy about them wanting to go to school and were very mean to the blacks. This showed that the blacks wanted to have the same rights but they would do it in a nonviolent way.

    On this date President Dwight Eisenhower sends federal troops to the town of Little Rock, Arkansa to end the stand off and protect the nine kids that wanted to go to school. This allowed the black kids to go to school and help with the segregation. It kind showed to blacks that the government would help them

    This started when 4 college students in Greensboro, NC began their own sit-in after being denied of ordering anything because of their race. The next two months, protesters in about 50 southern cities began using sit-in tactics. Using the sit-in tactics made the restraunts lose money and it was a nonviolent way to protest.
  • Freedom Riding

    Freedom Riding
    Freedom Riding was a way to help desegregate public transportation. Civil Rights Activists rode busses into the South to test US Supreme Court decisions in the Boynton v. Virginia case. The case declared segregation in interstate bus and rail stations unconstitutional. The Freedom Riders tested the law. When they took trips on the busses thay found out that people were still very abusive to them at these stations and on busses.
    This allowed them to protest and more people did this.

    At the Mach on Washington more than 250,000 civil rights protesters or demonstrators march at Washington, DC, This is where Martin Luther King Jr. delivers his "I Have A Dream" speech. This had a very big impact on the civil rights movement it gave the blacks hope and it showed the whites that the blacks want just the same right as they have but the will do it in a nonviolent way. The speech gave the blacks hope.

This is impartant because the government and the U.S. is one step fruther in treating blacks the same as whites.
