    Ruled “separate but equal” was OK. This ruling lasted about 50 years before people began to question it.

    Declared segregation in public schools in public schools unconstitutional, stated that "seperate educational facilities are inheritantely unequal" Begining of civil rights era.

    “Southern Christian Leadership Conference” was a civil rights organization, Martin Luther King Jr. was first president. Played a large role in the civil rights movement, founded after the Montgomery bus boycott.

    Civil Rights Act
    Outlawed major forms of discrimination against racial, ethnic, national, and religious minorities. Also outlawed discrimination
    against women. Ended unequal application for voter registration requirements.
