Technological Gaming Advancements of the 2000's

  • Sony Playstation 2

    Sony Playstation 2
The Sony PlayStation 2 was released in 2000. It later became the best-selling video game console of all time.
  • GameBoy Advance

    GameBoy Advance
The Gameboy Advance was designed in a "landscape" form factor, putting the buttons to the sides of the device instead of below the screen. It was designed by a French designer Gwénaël Nicolas. Something interesting about this device was the backward compatibility for Game Boy, while a link port at the top of the unit allows it to be connected to other devices using a Game Link cable or GameCube link cable.
  • Nintendo GameCube

    Nintendo GameCube
The Nintendo GameCube is a home video game console released by Nintendo in 2002. Optical discs were the propitiatory media Nintendo used for GameCube software. This changed a lot of views on gaming consoles because graphics for the GameCube remain among the best ever created (for this time. )
  • GameBoy SP

    GameBoy SP
The Gameboy Advanced SP was released in 2003 which was an upgraded version of the Nintendo Game Boy Advance that was previously listed. In my opinion, the new clamshell design is what allowed for more portable efficiency and resembled the common design of flip phones at the time.
  • Sony Playstation 3

    Sony Playstation 3
The PlayStation 3 was a console that was highly anticipated and desirable by me at the time. There were a lot of improvements in regards to the previous PlayStation 2. A lot of upgrades with the graphics as well as a more user-friendly layout were incorporated into this release. It certainly paved the way for more gaming consoles to be based around.
  • Nintendo Wii Console

    Nintendo Wii Console
The Wii is a home video game console released by Nintendo on November 19, 2006. As a seventh-generation console, the Wii competed with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3. The Wii was created as a new form of player interaction. I feel like this encouraged more people to start interacting with video games rather than just playing them.
