  • Boyle's Law

    Boyle's Law
Robert Boyle discovered that in gasses pressure and volume are inversly proportional to each other. When one doubles the other halves
  • Discovery of hydrogen

Henry Cavendish discovered hydrogen as a colorless and odourless gas that burns and can form an explosive misture with air.
  • Discovery of Oxygen

    Discovery of Oxygen
Antoine Lavoisier, the father of modern chemistry, recognizes and names oxygen. Also he recognizes its importance and its role in combustion.
  • Beginning of Periodic Table

Antoine Lavoisier began the first classification of elements. Of the 33 elements he knew of at that time he classified them into gases, metals, non metals, and earths. After this other scientists began to search to more precise classification.
  • John Dalton

    John Dalton
This English Chemist came up with the first atomic theory. He said that all matter is made of atoms. Atoms are indivisible and indestructible. All atoms of a given element are identical in mass and properties. Compounds are formed by a combination of two or more different kinds of atoms. And that a chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms.
  • The beginning of of our Periodic Table

The beginning of of our Periodic Table
Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev independently published his periodic table. He organized the elements by listing them in rows and columns by atomic mass and started new rows when characteristics repeated.
  • Joseph John Thompson

    Joseph John Thompson
He is credited with the discovery of the electron and of isotopes. Also he invented the mass spectrometer. In 1906 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his doscovery of the electron. After his discovery of Lenard waves he finally saw that the electron or "corpuscles" as he called them.
  • Ernest Rutherford

    Ernest Rutherford
In his early work he discovered the concept of the radioactive half-life which transforms one element into another. Then later he theorized that atoms have a positive charge in the nucleus. Later he is credited for the first splitting of the atom in 1917 which lead to the official discovery of the proton
  • Niels Bohr

    Niels Bohr
In 1922 Bohr was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for "his investigation in atomic structure and of the radiation emanating from them." Also because of his work in Quantum Mechanics. Later he introduced the theory that electrons travel in orbits around the nucleus.
