    When Chelsey was five years old her mother had been diagnosed with leukemia. She watched her mother become deathly sick, and a year later she had died. Chelsey handled the death decently well with the help of her father. Of course things were different. At this point, they weren't as bad as they could have been. She still had one parent.

    The autobiography "Chelsey" is about a girl who has lost both of her parents. She lost her mother to cancer, and her father was killed. It shows the struggles she has to face between regular teenage problems, and now a lot bigger and more important things.

    It was a normal January day when she found out. The only suspicious thing was that she could not get a hold of her dad like usual. She suspected to see her dad when she got home, but she was wrong. He was on a cruise like every other couple weeks to sing. When she got home, she had seen her aunt and grandmother's car in the driveway. When she got in the house they told her that her dad had been killed the night before. She didn't handle his death as well as her mother's.

    Chelsey still had a party as planned at the Macaroni Grill. The only thing that was different was that her father's funeral with the next day. She had a normal party until her father's girlfriend, Monique, asked her if she wanted to see her father for the last time. She thought about it and decided she wanted to stay back and enjoy the rest of her party.

    Chelsey had been to plenty of funerals, but her dad was always there for her. Not this time. There was a very big crowd due to her father's singing and cds. The service went on, then the testimonials. Now it was Chelsey's turn. She had said everything that was expected to be said of course. Then she realized he was gone, and she had to figure out how to deal with it.

    After Chelsey's dad died her Aunt Chris moved in with her temporarily. Chelsey and her Aunt didn't really see eye-to-eye on everything. Her aunt was very uptight unlike her father who was very laid back. She was tired of her aunt trying to be her parent when she wasn't. Chelsey couldn't find a way to adjust to her new life.

    In the late spring Chelsey's Aunt Trish, the aunt she was closest with, flew in from California to Ohio for an extended visit. She lived in her house for a month to relieve her Aunt Chris from stress. When her aunt came she started taking down all of her father's things which was hard. Chelsey was going to spend the summer with her Aunt Trish while her Aunt Chris would move all of Chelsey's stuff to her house, That would be the hardest.

    When Chelsey got back to Ohio she had three options for school: an all-girls catholic school, the district school, or the School for Creative and Performing Arts. She chose SCPA. She had the creative writing teacher. Creative writing was what she chose to take of course. She got in, but now she had to find a way to make friends and fit in.

    After a year at SCPA Chelsey was still shy until spring. She started coming out of her depression and started to get to know people more. She started with changing her religion, after she did this she started to be herself instead of what everyone wanted her to be. Then, she started to be more confident and outgoing, so this helped her adjust more.

    In the early summer Chelsey became involved in an organization called Women Writing for a Change. There she could write and express her ideas without feeling like she was being judged. That is where she became very close with her new best friend Avery. Avery also went to SCPA and was in Chelsy's class. They started doing everything together and that was helping Chelsey feel normal and happy again.

    Back to California
    Chelsey went back to California in the middle of the summer. While she was out there her Aunt had realized the changes she mad. She was going to stay in California, but she realized she wanted to stay in Ohio. Now, Chelsey was a senior at SCPA and was doing very well with her writing. From now on she owuld have a somewhat normal life again.
