There was an auction because Jenny the waiter there had know these girls mother before she died and wanted to take them in and save them from slavery. In the end the other people Mr ans Mrs Lockton won. They were sold like things -

They were taken up from the bottom of the ship in a new city with bigger houses and nothing like the country that she used to live in the day before. -
When Isabell was slapped for the first time
Isabell took the blame when Ruth had laughed had Mrs. Lockton. As a punishment Mrs. Lockton slapped Isabell. Isabell had been slapped before but nothing like as hard as Mrs. Lockton had slapped her. -
When Isabell met Curzon
Curzon offers to take Isabell to get water and return her home. While getting water he asked her to spy on her master and report what he said because Isabell's master was a loyalist and Curzons master and he were patriots. Isabell says she not sure and then she returns home
