The sisters are sold to the Locktons, Who did not like that nice, instead of Jenny, a nicer person. -
Isabel spies on the Locktings, and reports back to Curzon's father, Mr. Bellingham the information she found
She had to sneak out late at night, and risk her life, by going out after sunset, risking being punished -
Master Lockton is arrested for suspision of aiding the enemy

Isabel spies again on the Locktons.
Isabel brought a note in Locktons house to the camp, hoping that her freedom would be granted. -
Ruth is sold
Isabel is very upset with this, because her sister is not that smart and is not even ten years of age. -
Isabel attacks Madam Lockton.

Isabel is denied freedom by America
Isabel went to the colonel to get her freedom, so he could save her from Madam Lockton after Isabel attacked her. -

Isabel is in jail.
Isabel wiated for her trial in jail, for attacking Madam Lockton.She is sentenced to the branded of her cheek as her punishment, with an I, for insolence. -
Isabel is denied her freedom from the British when they invaded New York and took over.
Now Isabel has been turned down by both nations, and is stuck in the middle. -
New York is burning. Isabella helps Lady Seymour and her belongings.
New York was burning while Isabella was staying at Lady Seymours home to help with feeding the British soldiers. Then when Isabella awoke, New York was a burning inferno, so she had to help Lady Seymour. When they were escaping, Lady Seymour wanted to take her beloved chest of belongings, but they couldn't carry it together. Now Lady Seymour suffers a disease where half her body is "numb" basically. -

Prisoners of war.
Many Colonists were caught fighting, so the British took them and imprisoned them, including Curzon the boy with the red hat. Isabella shortly after, comes to visit him and finds that he is very sick. -
Visiting, and messaging
Isabella starts visiting the prison often, bringing scraps for Curzon and the people in his cells. She then gets a couple of messages to send to some Patriot captains around the city from the prisoners and vice versa. -
Finding out.
Mrs. Lockton finds out that Isabella was going down to the prisons, and sending messages around, so Mrs. Lockton got very mad. She threatened to sell her and her sister Ruth and she meant it. (Ruth was being held in Charlestown with an estate manager because Mrs. Lockton couldn't find a buyer). -
Breaking free.
Isabella is put in the Lockton's potatoe bin. She finds molded wood in the corner so that she can peel away and finally frees herself. She grabs a map and some money from Lady Seymour's bag. Then heads down to the prisons to find Curzon. -
The Escape.
Isabella lies that she has to clean the cells in the jail, then heads to Curzon's cell and tells him to pretend to be dead. She takes him outside on a wheelbarrow to "dispose" of him. Then they head down to the wharf and steal a boat to run away. -
The End.
Isabella and Curzon finally cross the river "Jordan" to freedom. They are both alive and that is the end of the book.
