Cell Theory Timesling

  • Zacharias Janssen

    Zacharias Janssen
Zach was the first one to invent a compound microscope that contributed to later studies of cells. Many say that his father Hans also played a major role in the invention.
  • Robert Hooke

    Robert Hooke
Robert Hooke discovered cell when he examined under a microscope very thin slices of cork. He saw a multitude of pores and commented how they looked like the apartments monks lived in, so from that, he named them cells.
  • Anton van Leeuwenhoek

    Anton van Leeuwenhoek
Anton improved the microscope and contributed to microbiology. Using his own hand craft microscopes he was the first to observe and describe single celled organisms which he first called "animalcules" but the name was later changed to micro-organisms.
  • Matthias Schleiden

    Matthias Schleiden
Matthias preffered to study plant structure under a microscope and said that different part of the plant organism are composed of cells.
He became the first to formulate what was then an informal belief as a principle of biology equal in importance to the atomic theory of chemistry
  • Theodor Schwann

    Theodor Schwann
Schwann concluded that all animals are made of cells and had speculations that plants and animals have different structure
  • Rudolph Virchow

    Rudolph Virchow
Rudolph made the third cell theory which is all cells only devolop from existing cells.
