    Focused primarily on cells in plants. Known as the "founder" of cell theory because of his partnership with Schwann

    During an expierment similar to Schleiden's Schwann discovered that all animals were made of cells. He also believed that cells formed from pre-existing cells

    Suggested that cells are the most basic form of all life. He also stated that new cells arise from old ones.

    Suggested that when an organism retains a virus that it is not the organism that is sick, but the individual cells inside the organism.
