Cell Theory Assignment

  • Hooke

Robert Hooke, an English scientist, discovered a honeycomb-like structure in a cork slice using a primitive compound microscope. He only saw cell walls as this was dead tissue. He coined the term "cell" for these individual compartments he saw. His discovery was made by him Looked at a thin slice of cork through a microscope at 50x. His model disproved Leeuwenhoek's model because he had measurements of objectives on his, Leeuwenhoek did not have measurement.
  • Leeuwenhoek

    Leeuwenhoek
Anton van Leeuwenhoek was the first scientist to closely observe cells under a microscope; he paved the way for a modern understanding of biology overall. Anton van Leeuwenhoek is considered to be the father of microbiology. His discovery was made by him making his own simple one-lens microscopes. Leeuwenhoek was the first person to make and use a microscope so his model never disproved a previous one simply because it was the first one in the world!
  • Brown

    Brown
Robert Brown, an English botanist, discovered the nucleus in plant cells. Matthias Jakob Schleiden, a German botanist, proposes that all plant tissues are composed of cells, and that cells are the basic building blocks of all plants. His discovery was made by looking at cells of Asclepiads and orchids through a microscope. His model disproved the previous model because he furthered the study of botany more than the previous one.
  • Schleiden

Matthias Jakob Schleiden (5 April 1804 – 23 June 1881) was a German botanist and co-founder of the cell theory, along with Theodor Schwann and Rudolf Virchow. Born in Hamburg, Schleiden was educated at Heidelberg, then practiced law in Hamburg, but soon developed his love for the botany into a full-time pursuit. He made is discovery by pulling different observations together making a theory. His theory "the cell is the basic unit of life," was the most accurate theory according to today.
  • Schleiden

Matthias Schleiden was a German Botanist who had conducted research and had concluded that all plants are made of cells. in 1838 he had declared that cells were the building block of all plants. He worked together with Theodor Schwann and proposed the Cell Theory. His discovery was made from him pulling other observations and making a theory. His theory,"The cell is the basic unit of life," is the most accurate to today.
  • Schwaan

In 1839 concluded that all tissues are made up of cells: this laid the foundations for the cell theory. In the mid 1800s the question of how cells formed existed in controversy. Schwann wrote that cells formed by crystallization of inanimate material inside the cell. He made his discovery by drawing upon published information. his model disproved other previous models by being more accurate.
  • Virchow

Virchow was the first to think about how cells form. His idea was introduced in 1855 and it was the third part of the Cell Theory. The idea was that all cells can only develop from existing cells. He also proposed that diseased cells come from healthy cells. He did this by using a microscope. His idea doesn't disprove anything because it was a new discovery but he did contribute.
