Cell Theory

  • Modern Cell Theory

    Modern Cell Theory
The Modern Cell Theory states that
    1. Cells make up all living things
2.Cells are the main structure and what help iving things function
3.All cells come from prevoius cells.
  • Robert Hooke

    Robert Hooke
In 1665 English scientist and Microscopist Robert Hooke described a little honeycomb-like rooms in a cork slice using his microscope. He used the term cells to describe the plant tissue, he only saw the cell walls because cork cells are dead and dont have Protoplasm. He would draw the cells he saw, the word cell comes from the lain word cellula which means small compartment, Hooke published the things he found and called it Micrographia.
  • Anton Van Leeuwenhoek

    Anton Van Leeuwenhoek
Leeuwenhoek decsribed cells in a drop of pond water using a microscope. He used his own fine quality lenses to use in monocular microscopes, they could magnify up to 250X and ended up making over 400 microscopes.
  • Robert Brown

    Robert Brown
English Botanist Robert Brown discovered the nucleas in plant cells
  • Matthias Jakob Schleiden

    Matthias Jakob Schleiden
Matthias a German botanist came to the conclusion that all plant tisses are made up of cells, he declared that the cell is the main building block of all plant matter
  • Theodor Schwann

    Theodor Schwann
Theordor Schwann a German biologist got the same conclusion as Schleiden about animal tissue being composed of cells. Which showed that plants and animals are made of different structures. He pulled together observations that stated that; cells are organisms and all organisms are made up of one or more cells, the cell is the basic unit of structure for all organisms. Or in other words he was saying that the cell is the basic unit of life.
  • Rudolf Virchow

    Rudolf Virchow
Rudolf was the first to demonstrate that the cell theory applied to diseased tissue and healed tissue. He did not accept Louis Pasteur's germ theory of disease.
