Cell Theory

  • Hooke

    Hooke
Hooke discovered the cell in 1663 when he built his own microscope and looked at thin pieces of cork and saw rectangular rooms and named them "cells" which means "small rooms." No one before hooke had ever discovered the cell so there was no improvment from previous models.
  • Leeuwenhoek

Leewenhoek discoved bacteria in 1674. He also improved the magnification of the microscope that allowed him to see bacteria that he got from the inside of his mouth. This improved from previous models because hooke had just discover the cell not unicellular organisms.
  • Durtochet

    Durtochet
Contribution: He came u with the fundamental factor in cell theory. This became a major part of the cell theory because this established the importance of the cell. Method: Durtochet concluded this by studying various types of living tissues and realizing that cells made up all of those living tissues. Disprove: He proposed that cells came from previous cells, disproving past theories about cell orgins.
  • Dujardin

    Dujardin
Contribution: He was the first scientist to propose that many living organisms are only one cell and named them "Rhizopada." Method: Dujardin viewed various cells under a microscope that let him to see if the cells had a substance that the cells were composed up. Disprove: He disproved the belief that all cells were hollow
  • Schleiden

    Schleiden
Schleiden discovered that all plants are made up of cells. He come to this conclusion by looking at plants under a microsope.
This improved on previous theories because it was a monumentally important finding in the development of the cell theory.
  • Schwann

    Schwann
He discovered that animal tissues are made of cells also. He examined tissue under a microscope. Schwann continued to prove Dutrochet's theory about the cell was the building block for all life.
  • Virchow

    Virchow
Contribution: He said that all living things were products of other living things. Which basically meant that all cells came from previous cells and they didn't just appear out of the blue. Method: Virchow watched cells divide under a microscope and realized that the new cell came from the old cell. Improve: Virchow was the last step in making the cell theory and his discovery added more depth and understanding to the cell theory
