Cell theory

  • Hooke's Discovery

    Hooke's Discovery
Hooke discovered the cell by observeing a piece of thin cork under a microscope. He coined the term cell in his book "Micrographia".
  • Leeuwenhoek's Discovery

    Leeuwenhoek's Discovery
Leeuwenhoek increased the microscopes magnification power to 270x. This increase led to Leeuwenhoek's discovery of the single celled organism. This model improved upon the previous one becuase it showed that organisma can have a single cell.
  • Dutrochet's Discovery

    Dutrochet's Discovery
Dutrochet discovered that the green pigment in plant cells was important to carbon dioxide use within the plant. HIs model imporved upon the previous one becuase he discovered the process osmosis by expeirmenting wiht an osmometer.
  • Dujardin's Discovery

    Dujardin's Discovery
Dujardin purposed a new group of one celled organisms that he called Rhizopoda. They are now know as protozoans. This theory improves upon the last one because Dujardin discovered a life subsatnce known as protoplasm.
  • Schleiden's Discovery

    Schleiden's Discovery
Schleiden was a botanist who prefered to look at plants from under a microscpe. Through this, he discovered that plant tissues were made up of cells. This model improves upon the last one because plants were determinded to be made up of cells and Schleiden reconized the importance of the nucleus.
  • Schwann's Discovery

    Schwann's Discovery
Schwann discovered that animals were also made up of cells. This discovery improved upon the last beacuse Schwann was the first to confirm that animals were also made of cells.
  • Virchow's discovery

    Virchow's discovery
Virchow discovered that all cells derive from other cells. All life comes from life. This dsicovery was an improvement to the previous model becuase this concept it a staple in the cell theory.
