Janson invented the first basic microscope. Without this invention, people would have never seen cells.

Aristotle initially observed plants and animals around the year 340 B.C. He finally came to the conclusion that the sperm cell or any cell is just an undevlopted version of the mature specimen.

Jan Baptist Helmont did research pretaining to the idea that there was some other element in the air. He came to the conclusion that there was a way to create a different element by heating and he named it "gas" or the latin word for "chaos".

When reseaeching about the cell life Oken came to the conclusion that there are fundemental parts of life, which he later called "infusoria". Even though he was proved wrong later, he did contribute to the development of cell theory at the time.

Contributions to cell theory were made by Robert Brown when he determined and observed the cell. He made observations on the cell's cytoplasm and the nucleus by using a microscope. Brown also contributed to ideas of plant pollination and fertilization.

In cell theory at this point, scientists believed that matter and cells just appeared but Albrecht proved that cells came from other cells by using a crude microscope.
