Adeline Yen Mah is a Chinese American author and physician. She grew up in Tianjin, Shanghai and Hong Kong, and is known for her autobiography Falling Leaves. Currently, she divides her time between southern California and London. She is married to Professor Robert A. Mah with whom she has a daughter, and a son from a previous marriage.

Mrs Huang came to visit Adeline and her family. Mrs Huang brought ducklings for everyone. Adeline's brothers ran and took the best duckling away even though they were young. Adeline got the last duckling which was the weakest one. She took great care of it. But one day, Jackie the family dog, ate up Adeline's duckling.

Wu Chun Mei's birthday and she begged Adeline to go to her house to celebrate her birthday. But Adeline was forbidden to visit any of her friends but she was simply dying to go. Adeline.said she would skip school and go to Wu Chun Mei's home. Adeline was guilty that she had broken Niang's rules and knew that the consequences would be disastrous. When Adeline came home early from the party, Niang asked why she came home early and Adeline covered the fact that she had gone to the party.

Father and Niang took her to Tianjin to seperate her from her Aunt Baba. When Adeline reached Tianjin airport, Niang introduced her brother Pierre Prosperi to her.
