Causes of the American Revolution

  • The French and Indian War

This war sets off the conflict between Britain and the American Colonies. During the course of the war, they fought in both Europe and North America and France won many battles early on. When the war ends, the French cury of Quebec is captured. The war lasted for 9 years, and includes fighting in Europe.By 1763, the French are defeated and lose almost all of thier lands in North America.
  • Proclamation of 1763

After winning French and Indian War, Britain wants peace in the colonies. The proclamation of 1763 bans colonists from settling West of the Appalachian Mountains. They hope to aviod further conflicts with the natives. This angered the colonists, and moved past the line against the wishes of the British. Colonists believe the line shows the British don't care about them.
  • Increased Taxes

The colony was in deep debt and raised/added taxation to so many products and items that everyone used to make up that money. The bad thing is that the citizens did not have a say in this, which made them angry (to say the least).
