    Catherine was born in Anhalt-Zerbst, or present day Germany, to Princess Johanna and Prince Christian August.

    Sophie was renamed Catherine Alexeyevna at a rechristening ceremony in Russia, where she was taken to be married. She then officially took the hand of Peter, a Swedish and Russian prince, and they were wed when she was only 16. Catherine thought of him as childish and cruel.

    Catherine hated her husband, and fell in love with Sergei Saltykov. Several months later, she became pregnant with a boy. Empress Elizabeth, who was Peter's aunt, found about Catherine's love, and didn't allow her to see the baby.

    Catherine had another child that turned out to be a baby girl. They named her Anna.Many of the rumors stated that the father was Polish Count Poniatowski, a man that Catherine was falling in love with.

    Elizabeth, the tsar of Russia, died due to natural causes. Peter became the new tsar. He made many unwise choices by creating a handful of enemies and wearing the German uniform, showing respect for that country's leader.

    Catherine gave birth to her final child, Alexis Grigoryevich, a baby boy. She didn't want Peter to find out or she was afraid she would be divorced and sent away to another country. She ordered servants to light a small fire outside to distract the tsar from realising what was happening. It worked. Then Catherine sent her son to be taken care of by a trusted servant far away.
  • Peter's Power is Gone!

    Catherine went to march with the people of Russia. She went with them to face her husband and become the tsar. She finally succeeded after Peter gave up and handed over the throne. There was much rejoicing. Peter was then later killed.
