Miss.Carmelo realizes her lesson is not working the way she thought it would. She explains "The Students were just not into it" (p.62).
She decides to pull some primary documents about Parliament, explaining "If the students didn't want to talk, they could listen" (p. 62). -

Miss. Carmelo panics when she realizes there is still 15 minutes left before the bell. -
1:50 PM
Miss. Carmelo notices one student, Jeffrey has his back turned to her and him and his friends are looking at maps of ski hills and not paying attention. -

Miss. Carmelo asked Jeffrey is he wouldn’t mind taking over for her reading.
“He didn’t take me seriously so I told him that I wasn’t really asking- I was telling him to come up and read the rest of the document to the class. He looked me in the eye and said “no”. I couldn't believe it. “Pardon?” I said. “No” He repeated” (p. 62). -

Monday 8:00 AM Jeffery is called into Gerry Dubrovsky’s counseling office at Lakewood Secondary School.

Jeffrey explains to Mr. Dubrovsky that he finished all his work and that Miss. Carmelo was picking on him, claiming “She just wants to make me look stupid” (pg.63). Jeffery then explains that Ms. Carmelo asked him to read, even though all the teachers know he is a “lousy reader”. Jeffrey concludes his discussion by saying “I don’t know why she hates me, I’ve never done anything to her” (p. 63).
