    Candide, Pangloss, and the Anabaptist travel to Lisbon for the Anabaptist's rug business. Their ship ends up shipwrecked and the Anabaptist dies. Once Pangloss and Candide land ashore, a huge earthquake hits and they are blamed. Pangloss is ordered to be hanged and Candide beaten.

    After leaving El Dorado Candide sends Cacambo to Buenos Aires to retrieve Cunégonde from the Govenor and tells him to meet him in Venice

    After sending Cacambo off, Candide buys Martin to be his new companion and accompany him on his journey to Venice. They are on their way to Venice when they run into an ongoing war and they decide to detour to France.

    Candide and Martin are having dinner in Venice when they see Cacambo as a servant. Cacambo tells Candide that Cunégonde is a servant in Constantinople and they leave immediately to fetch her.

    Once they arrive in Constantinople Candide buys out Cacmbo's freedom with the money he got in El Dorado.

    Candide is looking around in Constantinople for Cunégonde and he finds his old tutor Pangloss. He also sees the Baron whom he stabbed. They are both working in the galley. Candide purchases both their freedoms as well.
