    Germany invades Poland
    Allied troops were quickly stationed along France's border with Germany where they waited for Germany next move.
    This period became known as the "phoney war" and many people believed there might not be a war.
    These illusions were shattered, when Germany renewed its blitzkrieg attacking Denmark and Borway in April 1940.
    Powerful abd extremely successful war, German soldiers would parachute into ememy territory, destroying many transportation links.

    It took Germany many hours to conquer Denmark and only two monthes to subde Norway.
    The Germany Wehrmacht armed forces began its invasion of the Netherlands. The Germans forces moved quickly through Belgium and finally into France.
    They had camps set up before the Germans captured the town.
    On leaving of the Allid plan, the briish navy rounded up every boat capable of navigation of english channel.
    About 340 000 Allied soldiers, thousands more were brought to safety in Britian.

    Germany tried to destroy Britains air power. The Germany Luftwaffe started a massive bombing campaign, aimed a destroying harbous and shipping facilities in southeren England. German planes bombed London and other cities, terrifying and killing civilans and destroying buildings and streets. The British had the post powerfull planes, the Spitfires and Hurricanes two fighter planes.Birtish air forces were having more and more success in shooting down German bombers.

    On December 7, 1941 Japanese planes bombed the U.S naval base in Peral Harbour on the island of Hawaii. They bombed the Philippines. The U.S decalred war on Japan, The whole world was now at war. Hong Kong had fallen to the Japanese. Canada has sent troops to Hong Kong only a month earlier they were all killed or taken to prison by the Japanese. Of the 555 who perished, nearly half died as prisoners during the three year. Canadians at home were terrified to learn new values.
  • The invasion of Italy

    The invasion of Italy
    The invasion lasted almost up to two years cost thousands of lives and proved anything but soft. On July 10, 1943 the Canadian soliders particapted in the Allies invasion of Sincily. Advantages were slow, battles were often fought house by house and street by street. In the battle over one medival coastal town, Ontona, Canadians fought for a month and lost 1372 soliders before the Germans withdrew.
    Fighting had continued until June 4, 1944.
