    At the age of eight Britney went to New York to audition for the Mickey Mouse Club. The try out went exceptionally well but Britney had been too young to be a Mousketer, being atleast 3 years younger than the rest of the cast. Matt Casella and the other directors saw her potential and encouraged her to come back in a few years.

    Working Towards Her Dream
    Britney and her mother, Lynne decided to go to New York to work towards Britney`s dream. The Spear`s struggled financially and were unable to afford the airfare so they travelled from Kentwood to New York for 30 hours by train. Once the Spears had arrived in New York City Britney had a meeting with Nancy Carson, the owner of Carson Angency Inc. Nancy instantly liked Britney and had saw her star qualities, and considered giving her a contract.

    After attending Professional Preforming Arts school and placing second on the talent show, Star Search Britney asked to go back home to Kentwood. She had become tired of always being second best and no longer enjoyed the New York experience. Britney had also become homesick and missed church, a very important value in her life.

    Britney was selected from thousands of people as an applicant to fight for one of the seven spots as a 'Mouseter' for the Mickey Mouse Club in New York. Although Birtney did not have the best voice she did a great job with the choreography and always kept a positive attitude throughout the stressful and hardworking season. Insecurities started to become present for Britney as she didn't like her appearance, she thought her nose was too big and had crooked teeth.

    The Mickey Mouse Club ended in June of 1994. Britney was very disapointed and felt that her time on the show had been cut short. She returned back home to Kentwood and was bored of the ordinary life.

    Britney's career began to intensify as she searched for opportunites beyond Kentwood and pushed boundries and challenged herself. She called her lawyer in NY, sent a cassette tape demo to Larry Rudolph and had many auditions. She recieved many rejections but there were also many people who saw her potential. Jeff Fenster called her two weeks after her audition with him.
  • Returning to New York

    Returning to New York
    The signing with Jeff Fenster meant that Britney had to return back to New York City. Financialy unstable, neither parent could go to New York with Britney. Felicia Culotta joined Britney in New York and they instantly hit it off and became 'subsitute mother and daughter'. With Felicia and Jeff supporting her dream Britney began to work on her single, Baby One More TIme.

    Britney had begun shooting the music video for her new single with Nigel Dick as the director. Hating the original plan for the video Britney spoke up and gave the idea to be a catholic school girl, everyone was shocked that this young girl was brave enough to tell the director that she didn't like his idea. Nigel went along with her vision of the video but was unsure of how she would do during shooting. Britney proved Nigel wrong and nailed it, working hard until she preformed to high standards

    Britney had hit the number one spot for debut album and debut single. Baby One More Time was the best selling single of the year in the UK and 13 other territories and she had won five awards at the 1999 Teen Choice Awards show. Almost four million copies of the single were sold and went on to sell 25 million world wide. Britney began to become very popular, but she always handled herself well like a professional.

    Only being 18 years old the media began to create debates and spread rumors. People began questioning her sexuality, virginity and if she had breast implants. Britney had tried to brush it off and continued working hard with her busy schedule.

    Change had become apparent in the young adults life. Britney now had a hired driver, a body gaurd and loads of money in the bank. The previous bankrupt Spears were unsure of how to handle the large amounts of money they now had. As a way of repaying her mother for all that she did for her, Britney bough her mother a new house, which showed how much money Britney had.

    New smash singles "Stronger" and "Lucky" were released in 2000. Britney started to raise eyebrows and shock audiences, as people did not like the messages she was starting to send to young kids. The media followed her every move and exaggerated and talked about everything she did. She was seen as innocent by some and provocative by others. Britney was being pulled in different directions and there was conflict between what Britney, her mother and her management wanted and didn't know who to be.

    Britney began recording her second album with Jive Records. The music video was recorded and Nigel Dick was the director again. Nigel noticed the changes in Britney and saw that she was becoming a star and had confidence and an improved voice. Britney's second single Oops.. I Did It Again was in the top charts for five weeks.

    Britney's new single, Slave For You was very different from her previous songs but hit the top 10 spot. The song was sexually charged and the lyrics and preformances caused an outrage and people began to think Britney was going downhill. Although Britney was still popular and her album sales were still good they were not as successful as her previous albums.

    After a breakup with Justin Timberlake and taking six months off Britney was declared as the most powerful celebrity. Her career break didn't mean she was taking a break from the media and fame and she constantly had eyes on her. Spears had started to party drink and smoke excessively and no longer held herself together like she did when she was younger. There were many times when Britney would break down in tears to interviewers about her parents divorce and her breakup.

    January 13, 2004 Britney's new song was released and became one of her biggest singles. Her new smash hit silenced any critics that said Britney no longer had what it took to make a comeback. Britney began her highly sexual and publicized Onyx Hotel Tour but was cancelled a few months later due to an injury during a video shoot.

The once very self concious Britney had changed and no longer cared what anyone thought of her. She partied hard daily and had looked more like trailer trash than a millionaire celebrity.

She has worked hard to get to where she is today and has not lost her fame, but there is less focus on everything she does which is a positive thing. Britney has faced many battles and made many achievements in both her personal life and career.
