    British Colonialism in North America

    Many of the people who settled in the New World came to escape religious persecution. The Pilgrims, founders of Plymouth, Massachusetts, arrived in 1620. In both Virginia and Massachusetts, the colonists flourished with some assistance from Native Americans.

    James VI and I- He was king of Scotland as James VI and king of England and Ireland as James I. It was the first time England and Ireland shared the same king.

    The purpose of establishing the 13 colonies was to make profit from the resources and to spread their religion.

    A selected group of men by the Virginian residents to. A representative body in the new world. In 1670 The House of Burgesses strip away the low class people, people without power or wealth. This didn't please the low class people

    An agreement signed by the people of the Mayflower ship to establish a document of self government and to state the main purpose of coming to America.

    First Navigation Act

    British wanted to extract more wealth from colonies so they grated this laws to control mercantilism. All manufactured goods heading to the colonies had to be carried in English ships. Britain would tax the trading. This irritated the colonies.

    Bacon's Rebellion

    The low class people were mad because the government treated them inferior. In 1676 the low class people gather together with anger with intention to get rid of the Natives because they wanted more land. Bacon was elected to lead the rebellion and he tried to overthrow the reins of power. Bacon died and the rebellion was over. This movement exposed class tension between societies including the blacks.

    Salem Witch Trials

    In Salem Village Massachusetts in 1962, people began to get sick of Hysteria. A doctor called William Griggs would refer to this epidemic as a result of witchcraft. As the disease continued to spread people would take whoever they believed that was a witch to court and majority of the time they would hang up them. By 1693 Hysteria would calm down and the cases of witch would decrease.

    Molasses Act

    An act of Parliament of Great Britain to charge taxes on the imports of molasses from non-English colonies. To regulate trade by making British products cheaper than those from the French West indies.

    Albany Congress

    The French and Indian war was beginning to start. In Albany, New York, the British colonies were afraid of the French gaining power, the congress came together to unified the 13 colonies to defeat France and with the leader of the Iroquois to form an alliance. The British government did not approved.

    French and Indian War

    Disagreement between British and French colonies for the land. British declared war over the French colonies. The Natives preferred the French, they helped them in war. Britain send more soldiers to their colonies in North America and they won. They signed the Treaty of Paris in 1763.

    Pontiac's Rebellion

    Chief Pontiac led to a rebellion a number of tribes against the British. Followed after the French and Indian war, the Natives wanted to take their land back, they feared that British would take the land that the French had power on. The Proclamation Line in 1766.
