On the 7 of December 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise air attack on the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. After just two hours of bombing more than 2,400 Americans were dead 21 ships had either been sunk or damaged and more than 188 aircrafts were destroyed. -

On 19 February 1942. This is the date that Australia was attacked for the first time there were two air raids that were led by the Japanese. In the first attack that started just before 11:00 am the attack ceased after about 40 minutes. The second attack which began an hour later involved high altitude bombing of the Australian Air Force base at Parap which lasted for about 25 minutes.
