In 1992, in Oakland California, N'Jobu was killed by The King of Wakanda, T'Chaka. He was killed on counts of treason and was not given a fair trial.

In the summer of 2017, T'Chaka, King of Wakanda is killed in combat.

About a week after the death of T'Chaka, his son T'Challa, is challenged for his right to the throne by M'Baku. T'Challa accepts his challenge and wins and is named the new king.

a few weeks later, a warrior by the name of Erik Killmonger, born and raised in the United States, comes to Wakanda. He is arrested on sight.

Killmonger reveals that he is N'Jobu is his father. Since his father is T'Chaka's brother, Killomonger claims that the throne is his birth right. He then challenges T'Challa to the throne. Feeling guilty over the wrong doings of his father, T'Challa accepts Killmonger's challenge even though he is told not to.

Killmonger and T'Chilla fight in combat and Killmonger throws T'Chila off a cliff, appearing that he defeated him. Killmonger is crowned the new king and T'Chilla's family fleas the country.

T'Challa survives his fall and returns and attacks Killmonger. They fight it out to the death and T'Challa wounds Killmonger fatality. Feeling sorry for Killmonger, he tries to save him and Killmonger instructs him not to saying a life in bondage is not worth living. He then dies.

Kendrick Lamar drops a rap album inspired by the movie. The movie had yet to be released. Ryan Coogler, the director of the film is a huge fan of Lamar and his music and asked him to make an album to be the soundtrack of the movie. Kendrick said he would after he saw the film because he wanted to make music inspired by the film so it would be authentic to the movie.
