First oil well is drilled, Pennsylvania
this is the first successful oil well in North America it was found in Ontario Canada in 1858. this was the first oil well so it started a whole new industry. Back then before the oil was found whale hunting was the big industry in the US. But once the oil was found whaling hunting seemed to dangerous and too long so it shifted to oil. As the oil business went up the whale hunting went down wich let the oil men raise their prices because the did not have to compete with whale oil prices. -
Transcontinental railroad is completed
this changes the US a lot because the people had an easier way to move around. it spread out the country a lot to different places in the US. before this was made where the people were born was were they stayed unless they want to ride by houres and walk to a different place. -

Rutherford B. Hayes had the first phone in the white house. this was a telephone that was in the white house and it helped them, president, to talk with others. it was the start of the telephone in the household. -

This bulb that was made to lasted 13.5 hours before it would blow out. the man who invented it was Thomas Edison. he extended the light bulb last by 40 hours. this changed the world in many way the people had more light in their house for a longer time. -

this brought a lot of money. It also affected the economy in many different ways. in one way the other places were getting run out because they could not compete with the big businesses. As the business grew it made it harder for the other shops to stay in business. -
Railroads set up standard time zones
this time zone was 4 standard time zone where the trains would stop. this was made to explain the different in the sun position in different places.it was a timekeeping station that would tell people the different time zone times. -

this was the first railroad and it helps us a lot. it was there to have faster commutes and better traveling. if we did not have ths it would be really hard for us back then to travel. because of this amazing tail road, we moved ahead in the traveling business. -
