    The Start of the Industrial Revolution
    The industrial revolution developed over several decades. In the 1760s the industrial revolution really kicked off. The influence of the industrial revolution in Britain was mainly due to a high demand of goods which required businesses to find a much more cost effective system. This led many factories to go from hand tools to steam powered machines. The rapid growth in the industrial revolution was supported by the iron industry’s developments in producing cheap cast iron and steel.

    Captain James Cook Discovered Australia
    In 1770, Captain James Cook led an expedition down South to make astronomical observations but secretly Captain James Cook had orders from the British Admiralty to discover the secret continent believed to be down South. Captain James Cook was sailing the ship called Endeavour. Their expedition finally landed at Stingray Bay commonly known today as Botany Bay. After Captain James Cook claimed the land to the British and named the area New Wales before he changed it to New South Wales.

    Signing of Declaration of Independence of America
    The Declaration of Independence of America was declared on July 2, 1776. However, it was only signed on August 2, 1776 by 56 members of the SSC (Second Continental Congress) in Philadelphia. This marked indepence of America from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence was made because during the Revolutionary War, American colonists fought for their own rights as they believed it was necessary to declare independence from the British Crown.

    The First Fleet Lands on Australia
    The first 11 ships of the British fleet to colonise Australia arrived at Botany Bay and then later relocated to Sydney at Port Jackson. The reason the voyage moved up North is because they deemed Botany Bay unsuitable for settlement as the soil quality was not ideal for crop growing. Along with the 11 ships they brought 1,480 men, women and children who were all convicts. With this voyage came diseases from Britain which ravaged the aboriginal population.

    The idea of inventing the telephone came to Alexander in the year 1874, two years before the first successful call. On March 10, 1876 the inventor of the first telephone, Alexander Graham Bell, made the first call to his assistant. During his time the telegraph was the best form of communication. It was Alexander’s interest in speech and the understanding of sound which helped him invent the telephone with the help of an engineer, Thomas Watson.

    On December the 31st, 1879 Thomas Edison gave the first public demonstration of the light bulb in public. Thomas wasn’t the first person to invent the light bulb but it is believed that 23 others had done so before him. Thomas did many experiments to find the best material for the filaments. He was indeed very successful in finding a material that burned for 14.5 hours straight. Edison worked on improving the design with his team which managed to find a material that burned for 1200 hours.

    Coca Cola was invented in 1886 by a man named John Pemberton. He was a pharmacist that invented many drugs which weren’t successful. This led to John changing his interest into the beverage market. John created a flavoured syrup which is then mixed with carbonated water. Two years after creating the soda (Coca Cola), John Pemberton died of stomach cancer at age 57. Coca Cola was then sold to Asa G. Candler who carried the business into success. Coca Cola is still loved very much to this day.

    The first modern Olympics Games was held on the 6th of April, 1896 in Athens, Greece. This Olympics Games had 241 male athletes who were representing 14 nations in 43 different events. The first ancient games is believed to have been held in 776 B.C. in Olympia, Greece. The last known ancient game recorded was 393 A.D. The first modern Olympic champion was James Connolly who won the triple jump whilst representing America.

    The First Powered Plane, Invented by Wright Brothers
    The first successful powered flight that the Wright Brothers had was on the 17th of December, 1903. This flight lasted for 12 seconds and covered an amazing distance of 36 metres. Unfortunately, the first flight didn’t end well. The landing was more of a crash and the damage sustained to the plane was minor with only the skid and engine lever breaking. After their first successful flight and repairs they did another 3 tests. Their best flight recorded was 59 seconds and covered 259.69 metres.

    On April 15th, 1912 at 2:20 am in the morning the largest ship ever created sank. Everyone believed that it was unsinkable. The maiden voyage proved this unsinkable claim wrong. It sank 400 miles south of Canada with 2,200 passengers and crew. 1,500 people died by either the freezing water or drowning. When the Titanic hit the iceberg it damaged 6 of the 16 watertight compartments. These 6 compartments were the forward compartments on the ship resulting in the ship losing the ability to float.

    The Start of World War I
    World War 1 broke out directly after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand along with his wife in 1914. This conflict was between the Allied Powers which were the United States, Japan, Romania, France, Italy, Great Britain against the Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria, Germany and lastly Austria-Hungary. During this time new military technologies were being used. This no doubt caused huge carnage and destruction to cities and ended up killing more than 16 million people.
