  • First attack (sanananda)

    The American company (a company is a group of soliders. it usually consists of 80–225 soldiers) ran into a number of Japanese patrols making about 320 meters.The Australian company ran into heavy Japanese opposition very quickly and covered 180 meters.
  • Australians failed to outflank the Japanese position

    The Australian 25th Brigade sent one battalion through the swamps, to attack the Japanese positions from the east. They had done the same a day earlier (22 november 1942).
    Both attacks failed, at a cost of 129 Australian killed and wounded.

    The 25th Brigade was no longer strong enough to launch a new attack. The Australian 21st Brigade (1100 men strong) came and helped the 25th Brigade.

    The japanese troops were abandond with no more freash supplies coming in. Most tried to slip through the Allied defence line. The Allies didn't know this until 10 days later.
