  • Battle of Dunkirk

    The battle of Dunkirk lasted from May 26 to June 4, 1940. During the battle about 338,000 British Expeditionary Force and other Allied troops were evacuated from Dunkirk to England as German Forces closed in on them. This operation involved the use of hundreds of naval and civilian vessels and became known as the Miracle of Dunkirk. This battle served as a turning point for the allied war efforts.
  • Battle of Moscow

    The Battle of Moscow started on October 2, 1941 and ended january 7, 1942. This battle followed germany's failed operation barbarossa, an invasion of the soviet union. During the battle of Moscow the Axis powers try and capture the capital city of Moscow before winter sets in. To prepare for the battle the soviets fortified the city and brought in reinforcements. Due to the harsh weather there were many gains and losses on both sides. But Germany was eventually beaten back and forced to retreat.

    This event was a surprise attack on a US naval base on the island of Hawaii. There was hundreds of japanese fighter planes that descended on the base, and destroyed and damaged 20 naval vessels and over 300 airplanes. Also more than 2,400 americans died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded. This was an attack from Japan worsening the US and Japanese relations. And ultimately causing the United States to decide to enter into World War 2.

    The battle of Midway started June 4, 1942. This battle was one of the United states most decisive victories over Japan during world war 2. The battle was a 4 day sea and air battle. During which the outnumbered US pacific fleet successfully destroyed 4 japanese aircraft carriers. Also the US also destroyed a heavy japanese cruiser. The battle was a big victory for the US, with the Japanese losing 4 carriers, a cruiser, and about 292 aircraft. Estimate of 2,500 japanese casualties.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    The battle of Stalingrad began in august of 1942 and ended in february of 1943. The battle was a brutal military campaign between the soviet union and nazi germany. The battle is known as the longest, largest bloodiest engagement. More than 2 million troops fought in close quarters, and nearly 2 million people were killed or injured. Ultimately turning more support for the Allied powers.
  • Battle of Kursk

    The battle of Kursk started July 5, 1943 and ended August 23, 1943. The countries involved were Germany and the Soviet Union. Germany launched and unsuccessful assault on the soviet salient that was around the city Kursk. The Germans planned to surround and destroy the soviets, but were unsuccessful. The Soviets had surmised the Germans and withdrawn their main forces.
  • Battle of Normandy

    The battle of Normandy started on June 6, 1944, and was given the nickname D-Day. This battle was an invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France by troops from the US, canada, and UK. At the time France was being occupied by Nazi Germany. This battle was known as the largest naval, air and land operation in history. Despite success by the US 4000 allied troops were killed by german soldiers defending the beaches. D-day is referred to as the beginning of the end of WW2.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    The battle of the Bulge took place in December of 1944 and ended in january. This was the Germans last major offensive attack of ww2. Adolf Hitler launched a surprise Blitzkrieg against allied forces, and was one of the largest land battles. Since the battle took place during the winter the conditions were very bad. The battle lasted six brutal weeks, and resulted in the allies victory.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    The battle of Iwo Jima was between US Marines and the imperial army of Japan. The battle was 750 miles off the coast of Japan on an island called Iwo Jima. American forces invaded the island on February 19, 1945. The battle lasted 5 weeks, and was a very bloody battle. Its believed that all but 200 of the 21,000 japanese forces were killed, and 7000 marines were killed.
  • Battle of Berlin

    The battle of Berlin was World War two's final major battle which started April 16 and ended May 2, 1945. Soviet forces with American and british support launched an attack on the German capital of Berlin. Soviets Red Army encircled the city, and captured Gestapo headquarters. On April 30th Hitler committed suicide, and then a few days later the war essentially ended.
