Elected to office
Barack Obama was elected into office on January 20, 2009 during one of the worst economical depressions, sinse the great depression. We were losing more than 800,000 jobs a month. He worked on adding jobs, and we now have made 10 million more jobs, making this the longest running job growth period sinse the US was formed. -
Equal Pay
On April 29, 2009 Obama coaxed congress to expand healthcare for children, and legal protection for women seeking equal pay. Studies show that women only make around 77 percent of what men make, even though they do the same job. Obama is making stides in trying to close this gap, starting with the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. -
Obama Awarded Nobel Peace Prize
On October 9, 2009, Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" for his help with internationaly affairs, and his help with reaching out to Muslim peoples. -
Affordable Care Act
In March 2010, BArack signed a bill called the Affordable Care Act. This law attaempts to strengthen consumers rights, affordable health care, and greater access to medical care -
Osama bin Laden's Death
On May 2, 2011, it was revealed that a top secret mission named "Opperation Neptune Spear" was underway. This was a plan to kill the leader of the terrorist group, Al Qaeda, and planner of the attack on the twin towers, Osama bin Laden. This mission was given an OK by president Obama, and was successful. After they identified the body, he was given a traditional Islamic burial at sea. -
"Dont Ask, Dont Tell" reform
in July 22, 2011, Barack Obama helped repeal the militry law called "Dont Ask, Dont Tell". This law prevented openly gay citizens from serving in the military. This is just the beginning of Obama's campaign for equality for LGBT people. -
Budget Control Act
on Augest 2, 2011, Barack Obama signed a bill that attempted to control government spending and prevent the government from defaulting on its financial obligations. They also called for a bipartisan comittee to seek solutions to the countries fiscal issues. -
Obama Relected
On November 6, 2012 Obama was announced to have won his second term running for president against republican canidate Mitt Romney. Early polls showed that it would be a close race, but it was revealed that he had won more than 60 percent of the electoral vote and was ahead by over 1 million ballots. -
Increases on Taxes
On January 1, 2013, the government took a large step towards getting us out of the massive debt America has collected by convincing the predominately republican congress to vote one a bill which increases the taxes to those who make over $400,000 a year, and couples who make $450,00 a year. -
Trayvon Martin Case
In July 19, 2013 Barack Obama made a speech called "Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago". Trayvon MArtin is a young african-american boy who was mudered by Geoge Zimmerman, who was found not guilty for the young teens death at the trial. The reason he acknowledged this was because of the incredibly obvious racist undertones of the shooting.
