    After Germany invaded Poland in 1939, Australia declared war on germany as did Britain in the same year (Australia is a colony of Britain hence joining the war).

    Australians in the Battle of Britain

    There were at least 35 austrlians who particpated in the Battle of Britain, the (mostly) aerial battle against the Germans in an affort to defend Britain from invasion. Eight Australians became aces (an award to a pilot whose been credited with five or more aerial successes), A man from Cooma, NSW managed to shoot down 14 enemy planes which placed him among the top ten aces during the battle.

    Between April and August, 1941, over 14,000 Australian soldiers participated in the battle for Tobruk. The German and Italians armys had taken over beause of the oil found there. The Australians manged to take Tobruk and force the allies to slow down their movement and forced them to gain resouces further away.

    After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour near Hawaii, Australia declared war on Imperial Japan. Australia alied itself with both British and American powers.

    The Fall/Surrender to Singapore
    When the Allies went to war against Japan after they'd invaded Sinapore, they were overpowered and left hungry and weak. The Japanese had more soldiers and most of the war efforts at the time were focused on Europe. An allied General decided to surrender rather than 'die in glorly' after the water supply had gotten severly bad. Some 15,000 became prisoners of war and wouldn't be let out until the end of the war, by then only half remained.

    The Japanese bombed Darwin as an attack against Australia. They wanted to let Australia know not to mess with them as they invaded the rest of South-East Asia. (LikeTimor).
  • Attack of the midget submarines

    Attack of the midget submarines
    During late May and Early June, 1942. The Japanese went undetected into the Sydney HArbour and tried to drown some of the allied miliatary boats. 5 of the Japanese's midget submarines went into the outer harbour undetected on May 29th and sent around a misslie to detect enenmy warships. After gathering this information, 3 proceeded to enter the harbour. One got caught in anti-torpedo nets, the other fired it's own torpedo and got away. The third submarine was attacked by the Navy and sank.

    During mid 1942, the Australian Prime Minister, John Curtin brought back conscirption to anyone over the age of 18 and under 45. These men were required to join the Citizens Military Force as opposed to those who'd already volunteered, the AIF. The CMF fought among the "South - West Pacific" Zone and defended New Guinea (The Kokoda Trail).

    When the Japanese landed on the North side of New Guinea, the Australians knew they'd gain and valuable position if they were to invade us; Port Moresby was the main Australian base in New Guinea. The Japanese were fierce and the conditions the Australians fought under were poor, these lead to their near-defeat. Although the Australians knew they couldn't let the Japanese win and fought back. With 600 men killed over 1000 casualties, the Australians managed to push them back.

    Australians capture Brunei

    In 1945, the Australian defence force decided to take Brunei from the Japanese. They mostly wanted the Allies to notice their presence and their potential to help end the war. The Australians encouraged the villagers to engage in guerilla warefare which took down 2000 japenese. Although the Australians eventually won and the war ended too soon for there to have been any purpose or use of the land from there on out.

    Japanese Surrender
    During late August to September, 1945 the Japanese boarded an American vessel and signed a document stating their succumb to defeat. Many allies surrounded the Japanese in the Pacific after their tirade to take down Southern Asia. America was gaining on them, they had more supplies and better weaponery. Expeciallu after the bombing of Hiroshima, the main reason the Japanese surrendered.
