    On January 20, 1993 Hepburn died from colon cancer in Tolochenaz, Switzerland. She was 63 years old and had been fighting cancer for the last few years of her life. "Her death from cancer was announced by Unicef, the United Nations Children's Fund, for which she had been a special ambassador since 1988" (New York Times).
