    Jamestown was the second colony in America, but it was not meant for staying. The British received money from the church for a mission trip to bring Christianity to America, though the main point was to find gold. About 98% of the original men died because of settling near the water, having one entrance, being close to trees, not being prepared, not working, moving the campground, and they did not farm.

    Plymouth was the third colony settled in America. It was a group of white Europeans who came over on a ship called the Mayflower. Their goal was to be the new Israel and to spread their religion and have more space. When they arrived at Plymouth, they found a clearing perfect for making a colony, rows already made for crops, fresh water, and there were no natives to be found.

    French and Indian War
    A war between Great Britain and France, fought in N. America & Europe. KG III sends soldiers & spends lots of money defending the colonies. Britain wins and is in debt so they ask the colonies to help pay for it. The colonies have no say, and resist it. The more colonists resist KG, the more he clamps down on them.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was where English soldiers fired upon a “mob” who were throwing snowballs that contained rocks in them. Six Colonists were killed and this led to the British have their troops back off. When they backed off it allowed the planning and execution of the Boston Tea Party.

    The Articles of Confederation was a list of articles that would establish the new government after America had broken off from Great Britain. This document went over how the new country should be governed, but it was replaced a decade later due to how terrible it was. However, the people of America could start to actually consider rebelling because there was a new plan already in place after America broke off

    The farmers got a loan from the bank and planted their crops and due to bad weather, the crops failed. Because of that, farmers couldn't pay off the debt they owed the bank so the banks tried to foreclose on their properties. The farmers fought the banks because they didn't want to lose their homes. The banks had no one to back them up and they soon realized that the Articles of Confederation were fine for a while but they needed to be changed, so the country created the Constitution.

    NW Ordinance passed
    was about Americans who moved west and are still Americans but the new land is a territory ; after enough people move to a territory, it can ask to become a state and the gov't can allow it to become one. The NW Ordinance is significant in banning slavery in the NW (IN, OH, IL, MI.) It also sets a precedent that the federal gov't controls slavery.

    Americans rebel against Hamilton’s tax on homemade whiskey and refuse to pay it; this creates a crisis of power...who’s in charge, the government or the people/mob? This is the first test of the Constitutional government; it comes through with strength where previously the Articles of Confederation had shown weakness in responding to Shays’ Rebellion.

    Alien & Sedition Acts
    Laws passed by John Adams and his Federalist Congress that gave them the power to deport immigrants or Americans who spoke out against the government. infuriated Jefferson, who saw them as an abuse of power. These sparked the writing of the KY/VA Resolutions, which were written by Jefferson and Madison. They argued that Americans did not have to listen to laws that they felt were unjust, opening the door for the questioning of Adams.
