Anna Meares

  • Australian Junior Women's Track Cyclist of the Year

    This is a very national, prestigous competition that involves all junior cyclists around the country. It is publicised although the junior competitions are not as shown or viewed on televisio live as the mature competitions.
  • Commonwealth Games

    Anna Meares just slightly missed a Bronze Medal in her 500m time trial at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Her older sister Kerrie Meares won the Gold medal of the same event although Anna Meares received a Bronze medal in her sprint. The Commonwealth Games are a well rounded, international sporting competition although only the countries under reign of the Commonwealth are legible to participate.

    Ms Meares kick started her cycling career when she took home the World Championship in 2004 in the 500m time trial. This took place in Melbourne and she was only 20 years of age.
  • Athens Olympics - First Gold Medal

    Athens Olympics - First Gold Medal
    Anna won her first Gold Medal at the Olympics in Athens for the 500 m time trial. This was only a few months after her Maiden World Title in Melbourne. She also became the first female to break the 34-Second Barrier and won bronze in the sprint of 33.952 seconds.
  • World Meet Accident

    Meares fractured her C2 vertebra, dislocated her right shoulder, suffered torn ligaments and tendons, a heavily bruised right hip and skin abrasions as a result of skin sliding on wood when she crashed at 65 km/h.
  • Beijing Olypmics

    She earned Australia's only cycling medal of the competition. It was a very eventful sprint with her coming in second place rewarded a Silver Medal. Meares was barely recovered when she travelled for the competition.
  • World Championships - 2012

    Meares earned 3 Gold Medals. She also broke the record of the 200m sprint and completed her 4 laps in just 10.782 seconds.
  • London OLympics

    Meares luckyily brought home a Gold in her finals. She always won a Bronze in her team sprint with Kaarle McCulloch. Meares was up against her frequent rival competitor Victoria Pendleton and although Pendleton crossed the line first, it was reported that she moved outside of her lane due to her excuse of avoiding a shoulder charge.
  • UCI Mexico

    Anna Meares set a new record of 32.836 seconds in the women's 500m time trial at the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Mexico Track World Cup. She is the only woman to have completed the event in under 33 seconds. The UCI is an internationa competition involving all countries and holds a varied amount of events.
