An Overview of Emma Stellar's Life

  • Infancy

    Infancy
Emma was born into a loving, caring family who then emulated that love in her surrounding environment. Her father worked 40 hours a week and her mother remained at home with her and they developed a close bond. This event correlates with Erikson's first stage of life, trust vs. mistrust. Emma was loved and cared for, therefore she was able to develop a healthy sense of trust about the world and people within it.
  • Toddlerhood

    Toddlerhood
Emma's mother decided to take on a part time job to help eleviate some of the family's financial struggles. Emma goes to a local pre-school and is able to pick and choose the clothes she wants to wear for the day. Even though the outfits look silly and may not match, Emma's mother gives her the freedom to make her choices and wear what she wishes. This event parallels with the second stage, autonomy vs. guilt and Emma is able to distinguish herself from others because of her freedom to choose.
  • Early Chilhood

    Early Chilhood
Emma is a girly-girl and loves to do anything that involves singing and dancing. Emma begs her parents to let her be a part of dance class after school. While her mother is supportive, her father is concerned that she will be a diva. He raises his voice and tells her she should stop being so girly and consider joining a different activity. This involves the third stage, initiative vs. guilt. Emma starts saying what she wants to do but reverts to feeling guilt because her father reacted harshly.
  • Late Adulthood

    Late Adulthood
Emma is now 50 years old and is newly retired from a successful job as a nurse. Recently, she has been going on walks and reflecting on the life she has been able to live. She has fond memories of her childhood and appreciates the love she received from her parents. Emma decides she wants to give back by volunteering at a local shelter. This event goes with the eighth stage, ego integrity vs. despair. Emma is able to appreciate and think of her life as good, ultimately developing ego integrity.
