    Paul Revere's Ride
    Paul Revere was sent on his famous midnight ride to get the message for where the British current are. When getting the message, he ran in his trail warning everyone that the British was coming. But at Lexington, he was captured by British troops. Poet Henry Longfellow wrote the famous poem about his ride that many people know about today to honor his action.   • The Battles of Concord and Lexington

    The Battles of Concord and Lexington
    After Revere's ride, the British troops were attacking the towns of Concord and Lexington. Washington's army started a huge battle there, making the British retreat until their next battle.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    After hearing about 2,200 British troops ready to attack, 1,000 colonists prepared to fight them. The battle was set at Bunker Hill (but mostly on Breeds Hill). Unfortunately, the colonists were outnumbered and the British won. Even though they lost, the colonists began to gain strategy for their next fight with the British.     Creation of the Declaration of Independence
    13 American colonies' representatives came together to write this famous document to declare their freedom from England. After being pushed around with many of the British's taxes. Thomas Jefferson wrote the document with Ben Franklin and John Adams revising it.     Thomas Paine's "The American Crisis"
    Thomas Paine wrote out a document called "The American Crisis", in which it his response to the colonists losing in the American Revolution.   • Crossing of the Delaware River

    Crossing of the Delaware River
    After the christmas of 1776, Washington and his army crossed the treacherous Delaware river. He was planning a surprise attack on the British. His strategy was to cross this river to the fort of Trenton for attack. While he eventually made it across, a bunch of his solders died, including a slave boy who held the lamp to lead their way.     The town of Philadelphia was captured by the British troops. Their leader, General Howe outwitted Washington during this battle (ambush the soldiers was one way). This battle brought down the reputation of Washington. This was a major loss for the colonists as the British took some forts nearby with them too.     Set in two different battles in one in a course of 18 days, the British were invading from Canada, already captured Fort Ticonderoga (and feeling overconfident). In the first battle, the British had a shallow victory over American forces. General Benedict Arnold at the second fight got General Burgoyne to surrender and he and his army were chased off to Fort Saratoga.   • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    General Washington, with his own army and the French troops came together and fought the British in Yorktown. Washington's troops trapped British General Cornwallis from escaping the country. He surrendered as he realizes he was overpowered and outnumbered. Two days later, a surrender ceremony was held. Cornwallis, feeling embarrased, called in "sick" and sent someone in in his place.   • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    Seeing how well the colonists were doing, the French (who had a score against Britain) joined forces with the colonies to fight the British. At the same time, they made a treaty to recognize the colonies' independence.
