The Proclamation of 1763 was a policy that restricted colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains in order to prevent costly conflicts with the Native Americans. The British started tightening their control on the colonies after their win against the french.

In 1765 Parliament passed the quartering act. The purpose of this act was to outline locations of houses to use as barracks that British soldiers good stay at during war. If the locations were to small then they had to put the "overflow" into locals businesses such as inns.

The Intolerable Acts also known as the Coercive Acts were a series of laws pasted by the British Parliament to punish the colony of Massachusetts Bay for the Boston Tea Party. The tea party was members of the revolutionary-minded Sons Of Liberty getting on ships and dumping tea into the water. Today it was 1 million dollars worth of tea. They closed down the Boston Harbor, made trials in the colonies difficult, and allowed English soldiers to invade colonists homes.

The Boston tea party was a political protest that took place in 1773 at a place called Griffin's Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts. American colonists were frustrated and angry with Britain for imposing the "taxation without representation". The dumped 342 chests of tea that were imported by the British East India Company, into the harbor. This act showed Great Britain that the Americans weren't going to put up with taxation.

The Olive Branch Petition was adopted by Congress on July 5, 1775, to be sent to the King as a last attempt to prevent formal war from being declared. The Petition emphasized their loyalty to the British crown and emphasized their rights as British citizens. King George III refused to read it and it was rejected by the British Government.

General John Burgoyne and his troops, defeated, began a march to the town of Saratoga where they entrenched themselves once again in hopes of escaping. Gates's army had surrounded them and forced them to surrender. Following the American victory, morale among American troops was high. Benedict Arnold was instrumental in stopping the advance of the British and in obtaining the surrender of British General John Burgoyne.
