    Colonists are left to choose a side. Patriots fighting for independence, Loyalists remained loyal to the crown. Many remained neutral, the Declaration of Independence ignore multiple colonists, "All men are created equal" phrase was excluding woman. Also Slavery was also not addressed at insistence of southern delegates but some northern states took stepts for slavery to be abolished.

    Second Continental Congress
    Representatives from 12 colonies met again in Philadelphia for the SEcond Continental Congress. Contenental Army was discussed commaned by George Washington. British took Boston but General Washington soon dove them out of the city again.
    Fighting soon spread Benidict Arnold and Ethan Alledn took the British Fort Ticonderoga. Colonials were ordered not to fire " Until you see the whites of their eyes."
  • Lord Dunmore's Proclamation

    Lord Dunmore's Proclamation made a law that gave freedom for slaves of American revolutionaries. After British offered freedom to enslaved africans who fought for them, Continental Army offered free African American to join.

    Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet called Common Sense this argued break away from Great Britian. Most common people could understand and read his style of writing. paine beliefs were monarchies were unfair and people should be making the laws. He convinced many colonists that time was right for indepemdence.
  • Declaration of Independence Draft

    Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert Livingston and Roger Sherman. Drafted the Declaration of Independence, it expressed that all men possess the unalienable right of life, and pursuit of happiness. Also stated colonists had the right to break away from Great Britian. The doc also expressed that King George III had violated colonists rights.

    Continental Congress approved Declaration Of Independence, USA was offically born.
  • Battle of Trenton

    2,400 and George Washington crossed the Delaware River Suprising British including win on Battle of Trenton. Victory was pushed onto the Battle of Princeton.

    In the west George Rogers Clark, explorer/mapper built frontier army while weakening the British. Captured British settlements and convinced American Indians to stay out of war. As war shifted to south British enjoyed several major victories.
