The crucifixion of Jesus
Jesus was nailed to a cross with giant nails in each wrist and another big nail in his legs that were crossed together. He was placed in the center of two criminals where he was hung on a cross. Then a crown full of large thorn was placed on his head. When the cross was raised and dropped into the hole his shoulders dislocated and he was hung to die. Today in our culture people study jesus death and it impacts there lives and beliefs on certain ideas. Todays culture was impacted by jesus. -

Christopher columbus discovered America
Christopher columbus was an Italian explorer, he wanted to find a fast route to india. He set off from Spain with his three ships the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. The distance was longer than columbus or his crew had anticipated. But one of the sailers on the Pinta saw land and signaled the admiral. He claimed the land for the King and Queen. This sparked the discovery of America. -
Romeo and Juliet
The play Romeo and Juliet was written by William shakespeare in the late 1500's. It was a play about two star crossed lovers from two rival family, who fell in love and began a secret relationship. Then they are secretly married, but then Juliet's father was going to force her to marry Count Paris. To avoid the marriage she drank a poison position. This is a tragic drama that is a very important piece in american literature. -
Hamlet
Hamlet was a play written by William Shakespeare. The play follows the story of a young hamlet who returns home to mourn the loss of his father King Hamlet who died due to poison from his other son Claudius. Hamlet then vows to avenge his fathers death. This is a tragic play that is set on the late 1500's to early 1600's. -
American Revolution
The American Revolution was a war fought by the 13 colonies of america against Britain. Britain had control over the territories of america, Britain had put soldiers in and around the colonies to make sure there rules were being followed. Then Britain started to tax the goods of the colonies, resulting in riots and rebellion from the colonists. The result of the war was the colonies defeating Britain with the help of France and there other alliances. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Teas party was a political protest that look place at the Boston harbor. It was a result of the taxation without representation, that was were the British taxed items like tea and bread without anyone form america in Britain helping make decisions. The colonists went a dumped 342 chests of British tea into the harbor. It showed Britain that america isn't going to sit back and do nothing, they will fight back. -
French Revolution
French citizens decided to change there feudal system and absolutely monarchy. It was caused by the poor economic policies and the discontent of the monarchy. They hoped to spread evolutionary ideas through warfare. This just caused destruction and chaos. The end of the war resulted in the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte's Era. -
Frankenstein
The theatrical novel was written by Mary Shelly. It was a story of a scientist named frankensteins who created a sapient creature. Some readers that have read other novels or watched movies thought that frankenstein was the monster but he is the scientist. The novel has both gothic and romantic aspects to the story. It is a science fiction novel from the early centuries. -
Lenore
Lenore is a poem by Edgar Allan Poe written in the mid 1800's. The poem is about a death at a young age, of Lenore. She was most likely a fair madden or the angel Lenore. The poem follows her grieving lover who believes that people wanted her ill and wanted her dead. Lenore has taken away the hope in her death. -
The Raven
The Raven was written by Edger Alan Poe in mid 1800's. It is a poem about a man sitting in his house when he hears a knock at the door. When he goes to open the door he sees nothing and that freaks him out. Then he sees a raven sitting on the statue outside the door.The man asks the bird what its name is and it answers with a single word "Nevermore" -
The Cask of Amontillado
This is a short story written by Edger Alan Poe, the story is a man called Montresor. Montresor is seeking resend on Fortunato, the man who insulted him earlier. At the carnival they are at Montresor get Fortunato to go to the catacombs with him, then drugs him and chains him up to then bury him alive. -
Scarlett letter
Written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the scarlet letter is a book about a women who's commits adultery in her very religious, puritan town of Boston and has a child because of it. She is sentenced to wear a scarlet A on her dress for shame and to be a constant reminder of her adultery. She is sentenced to stand on a scaffold for three hours in front of the townspeople in shame. Her and her child are then go live in a cottage in the woods to away from the town. -
Civil War
The Civil War was a war fought in the United states by the north and the south. The south wanted slaves, while the north was were slaves could go to be free. The first fight took place at fort summers after Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated. The civil war lasted four years long and is a huge part of american history and the freedoms african americans have today. The north won and the abolishment of slavery was a result of it many years later. -
End of slavery in US
The end of slavery came after the civil war was one by the north. The abolishment of slavery was against the policies of the southern states and that is why the civil war happened. The result was the adoption of the thirteenth amendment that abolished slavery. Alabama was the 27th state to sign off on the amendment making it reach the three-foruths majority of states that had to approve the amendment. -
How dogs came to live with humans
Native american folklore was originated by the native americans. Dogs weren't always mans best friend. In the beginning before humans knew dogs existed, they lived with the wolves and were apart of the wolf breed. The dogs were the servants and did all the things the wolves wanted them to. This is a summery of the story. -
World War 1
World war 1 was described as "the war to end all wars". It started with the assassination of the archduke of France. During the battles a lot of the war was trench warfare. The men used dogs to carry messages through the trenches. The armies barley moved all they just bombed and shot each other the middle of the trench was the most dangerous so many didn't even try. The war ended with the signing of the treaty of Versailles. -
Gatsby
The Great Gatsby is a story told by Nick Carraway, who was Gatsby's neighbor. As the story opens, Nick has just moved from the Midwest to West Egg, Long Island, seeking his fortune as a bond salesman. He then meets his neighbor who throws giant parties with many prestigious guests. Nick and Gatsby become friends and a love story is also in the book. The author is F. Scott Fitzgerald -
Economic depression
It was the long term downfall in economic activity. It began after the stock market crash or known s "black Thursday" that was in October 1929, it sent investors to back out and panic. Over the next few years spending and investing numbers dropped and trash was piling up on the streets. This was resolved within the first 100 days of roosevelt election into the presidential office. -
Holocaust
The nazi leader named Adolf Hitler had convinced Germany that all jews were bad and to exterminate them would be whats best for the country. He conducted mass murders of over 6 millions jews and many other non jews including blacks, and homosexuals. He sent them to concentrations camps and labor camps. In the concentration camps they would be sent to gas chambers in mass amounts to then be killed by gas. Then bodies burned to ashes. -
World war 2
This war was a war against Germany to stop them from the mass murders of the jews. It started when Germany invaded Poland then great Britain and France declared war on Germany. The US later entered the war and sent over the red cross to aid those jews who were still alive in the camps. The war ended with eh surrender of Germany. -
Rise of dictatorships
A dictator is a person who holds absolute power over a country.Political and economic issues and poverty allowed the rise of dictators. It caused panic among the citizens, who looked to powerful people they thought could solve the problems. No one is allowed to go against the leaders or have ideas that are different to theirs. -
Space race
This was a competition between the Soviet Union and the United States of america to see who would successfully explore the moon first. It started as Russia launched scientific technology to the moon to gather evidence it was called the Sputnik. America won the space race when Neil Armstrong became the first to walk on the moon. -

Vietnam had been a french colony and wanted independence so they fought France to gain that independence. During the war the country was split in the north communist and the south non-communist side. The war ended in 1975. -
After Auschwitz
Written by Anne Sexton, this was a poem about the struggles the jews had to face during the time of the holocaust. It is a reaction piece that wants to give you the feeling of being sad from what the jews had to go through during the years of the holocaust.
