  • telephone

    graham bell and elisha grey where the inventers of the telephone. it allowed people to hear each other without being in the same room. they both wanted the credit for the invention, but graham had won the claim. it was a result of an evolved telegraph. it was actually an accidental invention. he was trying to improve the telegraph by sending more than one message at a time. graham bell also invented the speaker and microphone.
  • FRISBEE

    they were origanally pies made by the frisbee banking company and given to new england colleges. students that ate the pies saw the empty tin plates and decided to toss and catch them. the name frisbee satyed with the toy because it already had the name on the tin plate. others try to take credit for it but the frisbee banking company took the credit.
  • the great migration

    the great migration was the movement of about 6 million african americans moving from the south to the north and west. this movement was a cause of racism and discrimination. they moved because they seeked better oppurtunities and less discrimination. although they moved to different ares, they still faced racism and discrimination just not as much as in the south. this movement went from 1910 to 1970
  • cars

    cars were first invented by two italian men. this was only the beginning. henry ford was the first to start a mass production. these cars were beginning to outsell all other cars. the mass production made it more affordable for people and it cost less to make them. this all happened in about 1913-14.
  • 18th Amendment

    the prohibition of alcohol cuased a lot of outbreaks. it was then illegal see, manufacture or transport alcohol. drinking alcohol was still legal , for some soppussedly for medicinal and religious use. alcohol was also i reason of domestic violence.
  • 19th amendment

    at this time, woman were finally able to vote. susan b. anthony was one of the first woman to bring about this topic. she wanted woman to have the right to vote in 1878. it was until 1920 when woman were allowed to vote.
  • emergency quota act

    this act only allowed 3% of illegal immigrants to be legal in the U.S. this was done to restrict immigration in the United States because there were to many immigrants migrating. the government had to restrict the amount of immigrants coming in. the amount of immigrants reduced to about 500,000 less immigrants.
  • immigration act of 1924

    this act reduced the immigration to 2%. it came from the origins of the quota act. the amount of immigrant was reduced by 1%. this act made permanent and basic limitations for immigrants of that ethnicity.
  • black thursday

    on this day, the new york stock market had crashe. it lead to the great depression in the 1930's. sellers traded around 13 milion shares because they panicked and lost about 5 billion dollars in loses. the stock market was unstabble for days. this was the biggest percentage decrase in stock prices.
  • 1929 black tuesday

    on october 29, 1929, the stock market crashed. wall street had a 13% decline in the dow jones. it was then called black tuesday. some would say that it was the beginning of the great depression. the market lost 40% between september and late october. the market continued to fall for continued years. stock market loses 12 million dollars.
  • television

    the first television was introduced in about 1929. vladimir zworkin was one of the first to show the practical electronic system. john baird was the first to appear on tv. the quality was very bad. in 1930, the first commercial was aired. as the years pass more tv broadcastings are introduced.
  • 1932 F.D.R.

    F.D.R. was elected to save the people from the great depression.
    he created the new deal to help the people. It wasa response to the great depression. The new deal had three parts to it, relief, recovery, and reform. relief for the unemployed, recovery of the economy, and reform of financial system.
  • state of economy

    the u.s economy had been the worst in history at this time. the unemployment rate was 25%. some of the reaons fro this was because people were in debt and the amount of human consumtion had reduced dramatically. banks were also very untrustworthy because they were unreliable and would risk closing.
  • 1936 hoover dam

    the hoover dam was being worked on at this time. it helped create many jobs. it took about 5000 workers. the hoover dam provided energy to Las Vegas and Los Angeles. it was the biggest dam in the world in its time. building the hoover dam was hard because they had to figure out ways the concrete would dry faster.
  • 21st amendment

    the 21st amendment had three different sections. the 21st amendment repealed the 18th amendment. also it was illegal to transport toxic liqours to a state or territory or even posses it. it was ment to provide safety and secureness because of the danger alcohol could bring. it was illegal to have alcohol.
  • computers

    the first computers were developed from 1940- 1945. it was in the united kingdom and the united states. the first computer was abouth the size of a large room. it used a lot of power, equivalent to several hundred computers now a days. they were mostly used for military purposes.
  • G.I bill of rights

    this provided benefits for the vetereans of ww2. it helped veterans with low cost mortgages, loans to start a business, cash payments, an education and a one year unemployment compensation. it was ment for people who served in the war for atleats 90 days. about 2.2 million veterans were seeking these benefits
  • internet

    the internet was first introduced in about 1958. computers had become smaller and. the first online networks were in about 1966. it became more advenced in 1969. the first connection was at california state unversity and stanford research institute. it really took off in the early 70's. in about 1976 email was already staring to be used.
