    Brown vs. Board of Segregation
    The case of Browns Vs. The Board of Education of Topeka, Kans ended in glory for the coloured races.They came to the decision that segregation in public schools was against the law. The ruling was the beginning of desegregation for the good of America. In the earlier, 1896 trial of Plessy Vs. Ferguson it was ruled that the two races would be "seperate but equal" and that was the main argument in this case. They agreed that "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal".

    Death of Emmett Till
    Emmett Till was a young 14 year old boy who was dared to enter a store and talk to a white girl. He did so and was brutally murdered by two white men which then proceeded to chuck him in the river.
  • Rosa Parks - Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks - Bus Boycott
    Rosa Parks, the African American civil rights activist was a huge part of the bus boycott when she refused to give up her seat to a white. She was arrested for this act and futhermore it started a boycott in buses in America. All the blacks refused to take the bus and this ended in them shutting down because a lot of their business was dependant on the blacks.
  • Little Rock Central High School

    Little Rock Central High School was once an all white school until the 4th of September when the whites learnt that Integration is harder than it sounds. 9 black students were blocked from initially entering the school by the orders of the Government. Elizabeth Eckford didn't get the message, but bravely walked into the school and was pushed around by the whites and tormented brutally. When they were allowed to enter the school, the Little Rock Nine had to have federal protection.
  • Martin Luther King's Speech

    This speech was a defining moment for the blacks, delivered in front of over 250,000 civil rights activists. In this motivating speech, King states that they will not stand for racism and want it to be equal.
  • Mississippi Burning

    Mississippi Burning
    A civil rights movement was announced encouraging Aftrican Americans in the southern states to vote. During the process, three black civil rights workers were killed by members of the Ku Klux Klan (a group of people who were intent on blacks not getting equal rights).
  • Malcolm X

    Malcolm X
    A courageous advocate for the rights of African Americans. He said straight out in a non-peaceful way that the whites' crimes against the black won't be stood for anymore. He was later assassinated.
  • The Black Panthers were formed.

    The Black Panthers were formed.
    The Black Panthers were a black socialist organisation which lasted for a good 20 years. They first achieved national recognition through its involvement in the Black Power movement and U.S politics.
  • Bashing of Rodney King

    Bashing of Rodney King
    Rodney King was another important moment as it happened a lot later which tells us how bad the racism was. He was on parole for robbery, but then famous after being publically beaten by the Los Angelos Police Officer's. In 1992, the police officers were freed, being recognised as not-guilty.

    After many years of continuous, brutal racism, it is now safe to say that blacks are as close to equal as they ever could be with Barack Obama leading their country.
