The Missouri Compromise was in attempt to resolve the slavery conflicts. They wanted to have balance between the free states, and the slave states. Missouri was admitted as a slave state.

James Monroe, the presient at this time, gave a speech that warned Europe not to interfere in the western hemisphere. If they didn't obey, then the US would step in. The Monroe Doctrine declared the US power over the western hemisphere.

Andrew Jackson, the president at the time signed the Indian Removal Act which forced removal of Native Americans living in the eastern portion. By the 1830s, Jackson relocated nearly 50,000 Native Americans.

I believe this is important because Harriet Tubman lead her brothers and many other slaves from Maryland to freedom. She used a network known as the Underground Railroad, and became an abolitionist who freed hundreds of slaves.

The America- Mexican War lasted 2 years, and was the first U.S. conflict fought on foreign soil.The war was fought for independence of Texas and the border of Rio Grande. After they were defeated, Mexico lost about a 3rd of their territory to the US.

Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United States in 1860. Abraham Lincoln had to deal with the issue of slavery. Lincoln received only 40 percent of the popular vote, however, he still beat the three other candidates. Abraham Lincoln gained his populatarity from his famous speeches.

The tension between the North and South over slavery was continuously increasing and eventualy war broke out. Abraham Lincoln's presidency caused 7 southern states to leave the Union and create the Confederate States of America. 4 more states soon joined these rebel states.

The Gettyburg address was Abraham Lincoln's Speech at Gettysburg. His intentions were to address the war that was taking place, the Civil War. He wanted to emphasize the soldiers that were lost or risking their lives for America.
