Mussolini gains control in Italy
About 30,000 fascists marched to the capital, Rome. They demanded thst Mussolini be put into power. The king acquiesced to the peoples demands and give control to Mussolini. -
Stalin wants to improve agriculture
Governemnt took over 25 million acres of privately owned farms. These farms were then combined into one large governemtn owned farm called collective farming. -
Stalin forced Trotsky into exile
The two people trying to gain power was Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin. From 1922-1927 Joseph Stalin began to seize power. By 1928, Stalin was in total control of the Communist Party. Stalin forced his rival Trotsky into

Hitler takes control
Between 1928-1932, the nazis gained more power in the german congress, the Reighstag. Eventually, the Nazi party became th largest party in the Reichstag. Hitler was then appointed chqncellor of Germany. He quickly declared himself, "Der Fahrer" or the leader. -
Mussolini orders a massive invasion of Ethiopia.
The Ethiopians had successfully resisted an Italian attempt during the 1890's. To avenge defeat, Mussolini ordered a massive invasion of Ethiopoia in October 1935. -

Mussolini bitterly complained that Britian and France had taken all of the good land. Ethiopia was one of Africa's four remaining independent nations. They also had lost to them and wanted to avenge. They were successful. -
Hitler defies the Treaty of Versailles
German troops move into the Rhineland. The French and British appeased Germany by giving in to aggressor to keep peace. -
Hitler makes alliances (Axis Powers)
On this day, Mussolini and Hitler reached an agreement that became knows as the Rome-Berlin Axis. A month later, Germany also made an agreement with Japan. Germany,Italy, and Japan came to be called the Axis Powers. -
Stalin successful in modernizing the Soviet Union.
Stalin had successfully modernize the Soviet Union by using totalitarianism methods. Those who stood in his way were exiled, starved to death or simply murdered. With the industrialization of the soviet union complete, Stalin was ready to reclaim lands lost in World War 1. -
World War 2
This was the beginning of Worl War 2. involving more than 30 countries and resulting in more than 50 million military and civilian deaths (with some estimates as high as 85 million dead). Sparked by Adolf Hitler’s invasion of Poland in 1939, the war would drag on for six deadly years until the final Allied defeat of both Nazi Germany and Japan in 1945.
