Before the French colonialized Algeria it was mostly dominated by Muslims and thats were they originated from. It was hard to rule Algeria because of its vast mountain ranges. In Algeria there were a lot of different languages spoken so it was hard to communicate to the people of the country. -

In 1827 of April the French decided to conquer Algeria. The French tried many tactics to establish their control in the area but they were unsuccessful. The French tried to put a naval blockade on Algeria but it was unsuccessful so they decided to invade the country. The French came to invade Algeria to get the raw materials from the country. The people of Algeria were treated horribly. Sometimes the people got worked to death. . -

The French tried to set up a Democracy in Algeria so that the French people cpuld consider the country of Algeria a part of their own. Until the end of the French rule the settlers were apart of 10% of the population in the country. -
How Algerian people responded to the French
At first the people of Algeria did not want to the French in their country but over time when the French put their education and power into Algeria the Algerian people began to accept it. They began to adopt the French lifestyle. The boys of Algeria began to dress like the French and act the same way as the French. The Algerian people adopted to the French lifestyles but the French people did not adopt to the Algerian lifestyles. Girls styles of Algerian people changed as well.(long dresses). -

The first two negotiations are unseccessful. Then an event is held in Algeria and 6 million Algerians cast their ballots in for independence. That is when Algeria got its independence. -

What started as a march turned into a massacre. the protestors killed more than 100 French settlers and answering back the French killed in between 1,000 and 45,000 Muslims. The French attempt to draw themselves international attention by targeting the urban areas of Algeria. The Batlle of Algiers begins when three Algerian women plant bombs in the public bathrooms. -
De Gaulles Moment
In Algeria the military leader De Gaulle was considered a war hero. He wanted to get Algeria a new constitution. On June 2nd 1958 the national assembly accepts his terms. To get a new constitution first they would have to get the French's approval first. The French people denie this so that is when the Algerians start their march for independence.
