    Aristotle is hired to tutor Alexander by King Philip II. Aristotle taught Alexander a lot of philosophy and helped him with his military campaigns.

    Alexander the Great Succeeds his Father, Philip II

    Alexander the Great took over the throne after his father Philip II was assassinated. He was killed after he conquered Greece.
    To make sure that Alexander got the throne his mother Olympias murdered Cleopatra’s daughter and forced her to commit suicide.

    After the death of King Philip II, Athens tried to rebel against the rule of Alexander. He got the Greek city-states to sign treaties. These city-states include Athens, Arcadia, Elis and Aetolia.

    To keep the city-states from rebelling, Alexander the Great invaded Thebes before they could get any allies. He rose an army of 32,000 infantry, 5000 cavalry, and 160 ships. His intimidation worked and the other city-states declared alliance.

    Battle of Issus

    When Memnon died Alexander was pushing through areas to end up in Cilicia. He was ill and when he got better he got word that Darius III was just north of him. He defeats him and Darius III flees while leaving his family with Alexander.

    Gaining Tyre

    Alexander went down the Phoenician coast and majority of the city-states surrendered. Tyre was the only place to give him trouble. He spent 7 months trying to get the city. A lot of his soldiers were killed, but he got the city to surrender.

    Alexander has a town built in his name at the mouth of the Nile River. It would be used as a trading and military post. He did not live to see it finished, but it was a big part of the Mediterranean world

    There is talk going that some of Alexander’s officers are plotting to kill him. When he gets word of this he rounds them up and kills them first. Alexander fell in love with and married Roxane.

    His Greatest Fight
    The greatest of Alexander's battles in India was at the river Hydaspes. While fighting this was, Alexander’s horse was wounded and later died. After defeating Porus, the army stopped advancing after this because they heard there were bigger armies ahead.

    Death of Alexander the Great

    Alexander died just shy of his 33rd birthday on June 13. There was no person in particular to succeed him so his unborn son and Phillip II’s son are to co-rule.
