  • Black Codes

    Passed by States in the south; restricted African Americans RIgts. Some included that they couldn't bear arms, learn to read or write, or testify against white people in court.
  • Howard University

    Howard University, the first black law school, opens in 1869
  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    The Supreme Court decided that segregation is legal/ constitutional, because veryone was seperate but "equal."
  • UNIA Organization

    The Universal Negro improvment Association is established; they promoted "the spirit of race pride." It created a felling of world wide unity.
  • Jakie Robinson

    Jackie Robinson breaks the barrier of color by becoming a member of the Dodgers; he is the forst African American to be on a sports team.
  • Harriet Tubman

    Harriet Tubman refused to give up her bus seat to a white man, and she was arrested. This sparked the year long bus boycott from African Americans.
